June 5th, and the bank sign is already reading triple digits.
“This heat can just sneak up on you,” said Chris Stevens of EMSA.
On Saturday, EMSA took 7 people to the hospital for heat-related illnesses.
“You really need to be hydrating yourself, that is probably one of the number one things that people don’t do enough of,” said Stevens.
But in T-town…
“Can I get extra juice on that?”
Hydration via snow cone has become a niche market. Josh’s Snow Shack has several locations, including one at 81st and Yale, and even a mobile one at LaFortune Park.
“It’s a great business its really fun,” said Stephen Fry.
A booming business that even has a following on the Internet.
“Twitter, Facebook, we have our own web site,” he said.
More than 100 people camped out in front of Josh’s Sno Shack before it opened in May.
These people, mostly teenagers, had waited all winter for shaved ice topped with a rainbow of flavors.
TULSA, Oklahoma – More than 100 customers waited in line to celebrate the unofficial start of the summer season at Josh’s Sno Shack in south Tulsa Friday.

The sno cone shop kicked off its summer season Friday at 12 p.m at its 71st and Garnett location.
Many students in the Tulsa-area were out of school because of the Good Friday holiday. Friday was also senior skip day at Union High School.
One group told News On 6 had been waiting in line since midnight.
“It’s insane, but it’s awesome,” Josh Juarez, owner, said. “Last year we had a good crowd; this year is even better.”

Customers were given free t-shirts, pens, and bumper stickers while they waited.
